Welcome to River House Hanoverians!

Sorry to all those who missed the fall German trip. Kathy Feehery and Amy Bresky got super new partners. Kathy’s new mare has been shown extensively in Germany and will help her break the third and fourth level barrier. Rosalie is also drop dead gorgeous and an in-hand winner so look for her at the breed shows. Amy has another winner in Farlight. He is tall, dark and handsome. He did his first PSG, in Germany the week after Verne found him. He received a 65% and won his class! And he is only seven! Lucky Amy has already shown him, shortly after arriving in Southern Pines. They achieved 68%! Congratulations and we can’t wait to watch the careers of these two combinations. For the rest of you, Verne and Jeanie hope to go to Germany in May and we have some very exciting weanlings through six-year-olds as well as a couple of older show horses on the Florida farm. Check it out!!

***Fall 2009***
It seems like we just got home to New Hampshire and it is time to head south for the upcoming season! We had a very busy summer with Verne doing lots of clinics in New Hampshire, Massachusetts and New York. We had three super foals, two by Tony and one by Maronjo, although Trina kept her mare and Maronjo colt here all season so we had a total of four romping about.(see more about the inspection and competition news under the months) The inspection was a work of art under Emma’s direction. She again prepared and hosted a lovely party for friends, neighbors and Hanoverian breeders. If you have never been to one of her catered events, you really owe yourself to come next time!! The girls have both applied for graduate school and are in the interview process but Nora will be on the Florida farm for the winter and Emma will be holding down the fort in New Hampshire with Lisa and Jason’s able help. The first week of November, after teaching a five day clinic in Southern Pines, Verne and Nora loaded up eight horses and three corgis in two trailers and, with Jason as third driver, headed out to Williston, Florida. Jeanie is really hoping they will be back to pick up her five horses and one corgi before the snow arrives!! The Florida farm looks to be hopping this winter. We hope you will get down for some sun, to take in the horse immersion in the Ocala area, to hang out with our gang and to see all Florida has to offer. See you then!!

***Winter 2009*** The entire family arrived in Florida for Christmas. Soon after, the clients began to staggle down from the frozen north. And the north sure took a beating this winter. We are grateful to those hardy souls who stayed behind and kept River House, New Hampshire plugging along. Lisa LeBlanc has her Maronjo youngster there as well as riding Maronjo himself and the Spanish stallion, Sisi. She has organized the cooperative barn efforts and helped our stable master, Jason to keep things running. Thanks to all involved for making it possible for Jeanie to finally take some pleasure in the Florida farm.
The crew here has been having a fun and exciting winter. Bretone has been excelling in his Grand Prix Freestyle with scores of 72 and 74%. Amanta has been just as successful in here I-1 Freestyle with an average over 70%. Nora is qualified with both horses at their respective levels. Weide and Jeanie are qualified at Grand Prix. The young sales horses are doing great things on the flat and over fences.
Gary has leased Sebastian from Deecie. They make a great pair and he has learned so much and has improved immensely. Sebastian is a very generous FEI schoolmaster. Gary ‘s partner, Jim, hosted a huge birthday party here at the farm for Gary. There was a country/western band, Rusty the fabulous clown and two elephants!! We all got to feed and stroke them!! After a great catered feast and too much to drink, we enjoyed a huge bonfire, thanks to Emma’s new friend, Aaron, who tried to light himself on fire in the process!! Enjoy the photos of the event at http://thephotoenthusiast.com/archives/1462 !!
Besides enjoying the local scene of restaurants, dance bars, state parks(kayaks, birds, swimming, manatees, etc) and all the many horse events, the clients have taken many lessons and attended several shows and schooling shows. Amy Bresky did her very first I-1s with Welkin and is qualified as well as at PSG! Congratulations Amy! We have just backed her fabulous Bretone/ Day Dream colt, Brent. He is as beautiful to work with as he is to look at!!

Winter 2008 Verne is having a super time on the Florida farm. He is so busy, with upwards of twenty horses, a full house, lessons, horses in training, riding the young sales horses, clinics! It should keep him out of trouble. He couldn’t do it without his manager, Mary Jane and her jack russell puppy, Southern Belle. They keep the operation flowing. The Andalusian ladies, Joyce and Mary keep the place hopping with good humor. Debbie and her fabulous Royal Rico are near daily visitors. Leslie Sant , her support team of James and standard poodles, have spent most of the winter on the farm. It has paid off in wins at the Canterbury and Ocala shows at the Prix St Georges level. She received scores to 66 % and her silver medal. Congratulations!! Amy Bresky and the wonderful Welkin got great scores and wins and seconds at the same shows competing against the open horses. Verne found this partner for her a year ago on his German buying trip. The plan is to move on to PSG. Should be a done deal.  Verne is very excited about the progress of his Rotspon mare, Rotschrome. She is finishing her changes, working on the pirouettes and piaffe.  He is also riding Ravenna, a lovely black Rotspon, getting ready for the six year old FEI test, Bahai, a talented four year old and many others.
Jeanie is holding down the fort in New Hampshire. She has several horses in training as well as riding some of the youngsters and getting the coming three-year-olds started under saddle. She was lucky enough to spend a few days at the Florida farm in March. She got to fresh- squeeze her orange and tangerine juice after picking the fruit from the farm trees! The wisteria was just budding, the manatees and otters were very cute, the footing at the Ocala show was amazing, then back to reality! But the corgis were waiting in New Hampshire as well as the Weltmeyers, Weide and Wild Card!! She has been having a great time in swing dance class and planning a spring sail down the Rhine with her mother and sister!
Emma just got back to North Carolina from visiting Verne in Florida. He made her ride nine to twelve horses a day! The social life was fun but her butt is sore!! She is about in the middle of her accelerated nursing course at Duke. She has her corgi Nettie to be her therapy dog during exams and has had two four year olds to ride all winter. She is settled into her new house and life in the south.
Nora is in her senior year at Amherst. She is busy writing her senior thesis entitled “The Design and Synthesis of Organic Nanotubes of Defined Length.” We sure understand it!! She has had Bretone and Amanta at school but has been riding one-footed for the last six weeks as she is on crutches after a rousing game of intermural basketball!! Her second major in art, has produced many beautiful pieces.

2007 was as exciting as anticipated for Nora and Bretone. They again qualified early for the Brentina Cup going directly from Amherst finals (congratulations Phi Beta Kappa and first in class!!) to the first show. We had a wonderful time at Gladstone, renewing friendships and learning a lot. It was impressive to see how much the juniors and young riders have improved since the advent of these programs. Nora and Karen Robertson had collaberated to create an amazing Grand Prix free style for Tony. The music is Cirque du Soliel and it fits them perfectly! The ride is difficult with room to make it even harder as they gain experience. GMHA was the first time to show it.They received a 68.6% and won the G.P. class. Nora had been invited to showcase it again the day after the show for Chef’s night, a fundraiser for GMHA featuring amazing area cuisine, wines, cheese, etc. and dressage free styles. Tony was very tired but tried his hardest and we all had a super time.Earlier in the season Tony had received a win and an I-2 score of 67% at Saratoga well as placing second in the Grand Prix stakes at King Oak. We couldn’t be more pleased with his second U.S. crop of foals:type, temperament, movement. Thay are great!

April 2009 News!!

The Jacksonville Dressage on the First Coast show the first weekend in April was really fun! The new horse park is all it should be with great stabling and rings and a fabulous indoor with seating for large audiences. Nora and Jeanie as well as Cindy Rose were entered. Verne drove back and forth two hours from the farm as we had clients to keep riding! Tony finished up his Florida tour by coming second (by a fraction of a point) to Gwen Poulin and the seasoned Much Ado in the Grand Prix. He earned a 81 % on Sunday in the Freestyle! His Florida scores for the Freestyle were 72, 74 and 81%.  Featuring Cirque de Soleil music and choreography by Karen Robinson, Tony’s freestyle is wonderful to see. He loves it, too! Cindy finished up her Florida experience by getting a 67% and her bronze medal!! Congratulations Cindy!! Jeanie was pleased with Weide’s fifth in the Grand Prix. It was a pretty clean test but a little tense in the indoor.
Two days after the show Verne and Jeanie headed North with the first load. After a staight shot of twenty- six hours they blurred home to the New Hampshire farm! Verne rested briefly then headed back to Florida via a one day clinic at UMass and a four day clinic in Southern Pines, N.C. Once back on the Florida farm (no rest for the wicked ) he finished putting the edging boards around the new sand ring. Ouch!! is all we have to say.
Jeanie was excited to be asked to do a clinic at Jamie Fells Tap Root farm in Hinesburg Vt. Jamie has an enthusiastic group of juniors and young adults, many riding our favorites, mares! It was a lot of fun.
Verne continues to have many clients on the Florida farm. He will do another four day clinic in Southern Pines in mid- April and then head North for Nora’s Amherst graduation anda heavy clinic schedule for the summer. Emma has nearly finished her orientation at DHMC ‘s intensive care center. She is also working three twelve hour shifts a week. She was up at four o’clock the other morning to ride her wonderful Maronjo mare ( out of SPS Arielle) before heading off to work. That’s dedication! Things will, unfortunately, settle down soon as she has been making frequent trips to Colorado to see her SO. He is being deployed soon. Please keep him in your thoughts. More time to ride but less time to see her friend!
We have our first foal of the year! Arielle has a really lovely Bretone colt. He is long-legged and very chipper. One of the easiest foalings ever. It never ceases to delight, teaching the newbies to enjoy human contact. This little guy seems to like having his halter put on if only so he can buck around the paddock trying to shake it off!!
